God's Perfect Timing - Part 1
This past year has been a bit of a challenge for everyone, but primarily for the Neel family. On January 29th, 2010 the Neels discovered that their quite old furnace, once again, broke down. The temperatures with wind chill had dipped to below zero that week. Her father-in-law had been faithfully keeping the unit running from the time they moved in several years ago; but this time there was no way whatsoever to even "rig" it to run until the weekend was over and a part could be found. Everyone scrambled to house people and animals for 2 nights until they could survive once again in their home. (Miracle #1) On Sunday, Jan 31st, we suddenly had this intense urge to straighten up and move our "great room" around to make space. (Space for what? At that point we didn't have a clue). The noise and chaos that I seem to create was too much for Jenny and so she decided to go home for a while and work on her computer even tho it was incredibly cold there.
When she walked out the door I, without a thought, turned to Jason and said, "She's gonna start a fire!" I cupped my hands over my mouth and my eyes grew wide as melons! We finished cleaning and then I jumped on the computer to let my pain meds take affect for I had to go to church to play for their 5th Sunday "Singspiration" at 6:30 that night. Around 5:30pm I became very stressed and sick to my stomach. I couldn't concentrate on anything except Jen and the house. I had some things to finish on the computer, but the faster I tried to work, the slower it was completed. Once I was done, I headed out for Round Lake. I had passed the house and looked quiet and with only enough time to roll into the church parking lot just moments before service was to begin, I continued on. I figetted through the service and again could barely concentrate on what I was doing. (God kept me aware, but it was not time yet)
At 7:45 pm. I left the church and headed back towards the Neel home. I had called Jason and asked if they were going to stop by after he picked Emily up from work. He said they had that morning but would be going by again anyway. Part of what I said was, "Jason, something is wrong...real wrong. I am sick to my stomach. I keep thinking about the cats. If they look cold or stressed, bring them to my house. I don't care what our cat thinks of other cats. Something is wrong Jason...I feel it!" This is the part I hate to admit, for in my humaness I made a choice that I believe God already knew I'd make (and eventually learn from). I wanted to get back to my house to get on the computer and place some "games" before bedtime. I admit, in my selfishness, I passed by the house again without stopping. That was at 7:55pm. I saw lights inside and all seemed quiet still.....little did I know! Within 20 minutes of my passing the home that Jenny was running, in bare feet, from nearby house to house, trying to get someone to answer the door and call 911. (God's lesson to me). By the time Jason and Emily arrived, one side of the house was in flames! There are no words to describe the next hours as they soon realized that the reason the cats were so strong on my heart, was that they died in that fire! The next morning, Emily stood out in the freezing cold while she made arrangements for various companies to take over and help her during the recovery and thus her next "chapter" in the life of the Neel (Kober) family.
